Engine and Transmission Upgrades to 2016 Cadillac ATS and CTS

The next year’s Cadillac ATS and CTS are being upgraded. The upgrading are said to increase their efficiency.

Two famous offerings from the American company will boast cylinder deactivation and start/stop tech. Besides, they will benefit from widespread use of an 8-speed gearbox for the next model year. The upgrades will reduce emissions of CO2 by 6% and increase the economy of fuel.

Start/stop will be on both the 3.6-litre six-cylinder and 2.0-litre turbo V4. The system does not use the battery for start/stop. It restarts the engine with the help of a voltage stabilization system. The last one is powered by ultracapacitors. According to the automaker, it makes the vehicle’s restarts faster and smoother.

Along with cylinder deactivation, the six-cylinder is able to temporarily change to V4 mode under condition of usual driving situations and light loads.

Even though the same 3.6-litre six-cylinder will be placed in the car, the motor will be tweaked. In comparison with the previous offering, the engine will be able to offer a small increase in power: 12 hp and 7 pound-feet. As a result, the buyers get 333 hp and torque of 285 lb-ft.

Cadillac has not told final numbers for fuel economy, but, according to the previous facts, we suppose, that there will be a 9% increase.
