Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable Returned Because of Sticky Throttles

For announced a return today for about 468,000 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models from the 2000-2003 model years.

Previous fall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a probe on those models after getting 100 complaints about the throttles on the Taurus and Sable models equipped with a 3.0-liter, Duratec V6 motor. According to the US brand, the throttle cables can be affected or disconnected during maintenance. 5 crashes have been announced related to the problem, though none sustained injuries.

As a result of the return, NHTSA will close its examination and Ford will check the cables and add enhancement to tabs that hold the cables in place for free. If the tabs are absent, the whole cable will be changed. The brand will start contacting affected customers via mail starting on June 24 and dealers were also informed to fix cars even if the customers don’t receive the mails.
