An Outstanding Platform for EVs from Mercedes

Reports indicate that Mercedes is developing a new EV platform. It will underpin 4 models that will be introduced soon.

Car Magazine writes that the platform’s name will be EVA. The EVA will still have much in common with the MRA architecture. The MRA underpins all models from the C- to S-Class. Despite there are no official details, we know that the platform is able to accommodate a large battery pack. It is said to weigh 882 pounds.

The first offering built on the new platform will come out in 2018. According to the rumours, it will be a sedan slotted between the C- and E-Class. Soon after that a crossover will follow it. The crossover will be placed between the GLC and GLE. Later on, the automaker will launch an S-Class sized EV and a large crossover (larger than the GLS).

Rear-wheel drive versions will receive an electric mill with 402 hp. Four-wheel drive offerings will benefit from an additional electric unit generating 120 or 201 hp. There also will be an adaptive suspension, a high-tech energy recovery set-up and torque vectoring.

The automaker wants to sell 20,000 units per model. The price will kick off somewhere from £70,000.
