Volvo XC40 Render

New design language of Volvo speaks for itself. You will find it on the 2nd-gen XC90 and the latest S90 and V90 duo. The marquee owned by Geely is planning to enlarge its range by creating the first-ever XC40. This compact crossover should look very similar to its larger brother.

The model under consideration has been already spied as a chassis testing mule. The speculative render imagines it as a downsized XC90. Currently it is unknown if it happens, but it’s interesting to see how design of the XC90 can be used on the smaller body of the case.

We know that the XC40 will be equipped with the latest automaker’s CMA (Compact Modular Architecture). Several components will derive from the SPA architecture. This architecture is used on bigger offerings, such as the S90, XC90 and V90. The vehicle will be powered by V4 engines. The automaker is working on V3 units that be offered on compact vehicles along with the XC40.

All the CMA-based vehicles will be gathered together in Belgium at the company’s plant at Ghent. Geely could also produce some of them in China. The first CMA vehicle will be launched in 2017. The line-up will consist of the V, S40 and XC40. Moreover, a long-wheelbase V40 is discussed. There also might be a C40 coupe. It will be placed in the place of the C30 demise.

We do not currently know the date of the XC40 introduction. It will probably come out before the 2nd part of 2018.
